gene  winfield
is a  world  known legendary  hot rod and custom car designer.  he races his roadster at El  Mirage SCAT dry bed lake races or in Bonneville whenever  possible. gene winfield is  82 but feels much younger. “I am the oldest teenager in the world”, he says.  he is contantly busy, not only at his customs car workshop but also with metal workshops around the world. each october he is hosting a large car show in his place in the mojave desert.










mr. asia usa 2008
ryan ide (with director carolin reiter), was crowned at the emerald night charity event on april 26 in montebello, CA. 600 mostly asian american guests joined the event that was held in order to support the AIDS Center of Hope at Wat Phra Baht Nam Phu (thailand) also known as the AIDS temple that provides free hospice care to people who are living and dying from HIV/AIDS and have no place else to go.  Wat Phra Baht Nam Phu means Spring of the Buddha’s Footprint Temple. george adams (left) is planning to work till he is 102 years old. at 87, he is still spending his days on the scrap metal site he founded 50 years ago. the company is his life. pamela is 62 and homeless. she is trying to get off the street. when she asks for money she will always put a smile on even when she feels miserable inside. tony munoz (bottom) wishes a day had 32 hours so that he could accomplish all his activities. he runs the  "varieties international" ballroom dance studio in santa monica, CA. he organizes karaoke and ballroom dance events, he designs ballroom shoes and stars in movies. but he also entertains tourists once in a while as an elvis impersonator with his friend jean tanner. meet these people and others and learn more about the situation of seniors in the us in the documentary sleepless in hollywood - in production (release jan 2009)
 








hungry for lobster         
300.000 amateurs went diving for the "bug" again during this year's florida lobster mini season. law enforcement made sure people respected the strict laws, like the minimum size or the maximum amount caught per person per day. for many lobster lovers the two day mini season ended with an expensive fine.













smoothe rides 
internationally reknown car designer LUIGI COLANI from germany at the PASADENA ART CENTER CAR SHOW 2007. many famous car designers have graduated from the PASADENA ART CENTER. COLANI's lecture  was more than funny. however, he seriously encouraged the car design students to be more couragous.

...and they are hundreds of feet below you! the grand canyon sky walk has a glass floor. you can take an amazing tour (in booties only!). the hualapai tribe's new tourist site already attracted thousands of visitors on the first day with their new attraction. once the glass panels are too scratched, they will be replaced and cut in pieces - and sold to tourists. admission with bus tour 75 $.  David Jin invested 30 Mio. US $ in this project.

l.a. based celebrity chef wolfgang puck, originaly from austria, switched to totally organic. "people put super into their cars but junk into their bodies", he says. not in his restaurants. he says he'd gone all organic much earlier but there was a lack of offers especially for meat so far. the humane society of the us is happy to have a celebrity like him on its side now.

the walker
fernando belongs to the tribe of the tarhumaras. he lives at 7000 ft in the mexican sierra madre. his people is known as long distance walkers. during a traditional contest, runners make up to 300 miles non stop in 72 hours. kicking a wooden ball, they make their way through rough canyons and steep hills, often barefoot.

tons of steel were lifted when the former hotel BELLEVUE i  l.a.'s pico-union neighborhood got most modern earthquake prevention. 3 weeks of precision work advanced this action which was part of an all over remodeling of the 90 year old building. after a long prep phase, superintendent michael riches' (left) work is done.

jinx akerkar left berlin, germany, when she was seven years old. she was jewish and her parents fled the nazi persecution. after an odyssey through holland, france, cuba and the US she found her final destination in mumbai, india. jinx´journey,

a one hour documentary,

downtown art walks

once a month l.a. downtown´s many galleries open till 10 pm for an art walk. the event has been attracting up to 10.000 visitors . one of the most popular places to go is the hive gallery on spring street. owner nathan  cartwright (photo on left) is an artist and a business man. he is renting out segments of the gallery to artists where they can present their work.
