A childhood is short in the rural areas of Rajastan, the Indian desert. Only boys go to school, a girl has to work physically hard from early on. But the Barefoot Collage in the village Tilonia has changed the life in this conservative area. The NGO (non governmental organisation) is manufacturing solar panels and lamps. With the help of this renewable energy, girls can take free night school classes provided by the project and learn how to read and write for a better future. The barefoot collage also supports a children’s parliament where the little ones can gather and discuss their problems. The NGO trains women as engineers for the solar devices which creates a whole new respect for the female gender. Even the barriers of the cast system are breaking down around Tilonia.
